Interaction

Ciprofloxacin may increase the efficacy of local treatment of bacterial infections. Caution: these symptoms may spread to the genitals and brain (e.g. blurred/double vision, sensitivity to light, psychosis). Check with your doctor as soon as possible if you have any potential liver or kidney dysfunction. Ciprofloxacin increases the risk of drug-resistant strains of ciprofloxacin-susceptible organisms, and studies have shown a increased incidence of multidrug-resistant infections with the co-administration of ciprofloxacin. Use with caution in patients with a history of urinary tract infection, a history of lower respiratory tract infections (e.g. asthma, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease), benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), and renal impairment. Ciprofloxacin may affect the QT interval and, in particular, prolong the QT interval leading to torsades de pointes (QT interval prolongation). This risk exists even in the absence of liver or kidney disease. Therefore, monitoring by electrocardiograms is advised in patients with a history of QT interval prolongation and in patients with pre-existing heart failure, MI, bradycardia, or concomitant cardiovascular disease (e.g. heart failure, heart failure withNYHA). Caution is advised in patients with a pre-existing QT interval prolongation and in patients with any history of QT interval prolongation or heart failure.
